Safetypatrols at car park

SAFETY patrols are being increased in Leigh Mills car park in Coventry city centre after one woman was the victim of a knife-point robbery and possibly the same offender slipped into another female driver's car.

Both women, one aged 44 and the other 28, were shaken by the incidents, which happened within minutes of each other on the first and third floors of the car park in Ryley Street, at teatime on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was preparing to drive off when a man slipped into the passenger seat and stole her handbag, which was later recovered.

The victim could see nobody else on the third floor as she called for help.

The 44-year-old victim had a knife held to her throat on the first floor just a couple of minutes later t5 led tube and her handbag was also stolen.

Police are also scouring CCTV footage of the car park.

CV One's Hilary Hopker said it was a safe car park by design and included features such as extra lights.

She said: "This is a very rare occurrence for us. We do regularly patrol all our car parks but we don't have a continual presence because we are patrolling them all."
