England give Denly a chance to be new KP

Test match cricket brought to you in association with

JOE DENLY is to be the next batsman out of the blocks for England after he was today named in three separate limited-over international squads.

Little more than 24 hours after confirming that Jonathan Trott will face Australia at the Brit Oval in this week's deciding Ashes Test, the selectors have identified Kent opener Denly as the player to fill Kevin Pietersen's shoes -- or at least try to -- when it comes to one-day cricket.

With Pietersen out of the equation until this winter's tour of South Africa after recently suffering a Franck Muller Watches Replica setback in his recovery from Achilles tendon surgery, England believe the time is right for the uncapped 23-year-old Denly to step forward for the first time.

The dashing young batsman will go to Belfast next week for a one- day international against Ireland and he also features in the squad for two Twenty20 internationals against Australa.

But the big prize for Denly is to be part of the squad that will tackle the Aussies in a seven-match NatWest Series next month and then go straight on to South Africa for the Champions Trophy.

"Joe has impressed us with some excellent performances in one- day cricket and, with Kevin Pietersen unavailable, this is an excellent opportunity for him to step up to the next level and show what he is capable of," said national selector Geoff Miller.

Denly averaged above 50 in this season's Friends Provident Trophy competition and has formed an exciting opening partnership with Rob Key at Kent. Once again, though, there is no place for Key in England's plans.

Talked about as a candidate for this week's Test but ignored, the county captain has even fallen out of the Twenty20 squad -- despite being a member of England's party for the World Twenty20 a couple of months ago.

Although Andrew Flintoff's name appears in all of today's squads, his involvement in any of the limited-over matches between now and October hinge on how his fragile right knee stands up to this week's Ashes battle.

Clip in hair extensions

There has been talk that Flintoff -- who is retiring from Test cricket after The Oval showdown -- may need more surgery, having gone under the knife only four months ago.

Ian Bell, who will bat at No 3 for England Burberry Replica Handbag this week, has lost his place in the 50-over side, as has Dimitri Mascarenhas. And, as for the two Twenty20 internationals against Australia at Old Trafford if a fortnight or so, James Foster, Graham Napier and Mascarenhas join Key on the discard pile in the wake of England World Twenty20 failure.

Matt Prior, Trott, Tim Bresnan and Flintoff -- who was unavailable in June because of injury - make a squad captained by Paul Collingwood.

Possibly the biggest surprise, though, is that only Andrew Strauss will be rested for next week's match in Belfast, which takes place just three days after the end of the Ashes series.

Collingwood takes the reins for that game and players such as Flintoff, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad are all listed to travel, despite their Test exertions against Australia.

THE SQUADS NatWest Series/Champions Trophy A Strauss (capt), J Denly, R Bopara, O Shah, E Morgan, M Prior (wkt), L Wright, A Flintoff, P Collingwood, S Broad, T Bresnan, A Rashid, G Swann, R Sidebottom, J Anderson.

ODI v Ireland (Belfast) As above, minus Strauss with Collingwood as captain.

T20 internationals v Australia Denly, Bopara, Shah, Wright, Morgan, Collingwood (capt), Flintoff, Prior (wkt), J Trott, Broad, Rashid, Swann, Bresnan, Sidebottom, Anderson.

AS it took 15 minutes to find the shoe I was searching for on Saturday night I decided to tidy my shoe cupboard yet again. I really should throw out some of my rarely worn pairs but I have this compulsion to hold on to all my shoes forever.

I wouldn't be surprised to find the Women's Wallet handbag pair of the Tuff Go-Girls my dad once bought me for school. Goodness knows they lived up to their name, they were indestructible. Even though they came with a written six-month guarantee, he still insisted on reinforcing them with a couple of layers of stick-on soles and studs on the heels - a buck navvy would have been hard pushed to wear them out let alone a scrappy little schoolgirl.

I keep all my shoes in the bottom of the walk-in wardrobe - a cupboard as dark as a tax man's heart - and every Saturday night I have to get down on my hands and knees and rely on feel as much as sight as I throw odd shoes over my shoulder, swearing profusely and vowing to stay organised.

I blame my shoe obsession on not having many new pairs as a kid; the excitement of going into a shoe shop has never left me.

I was 13 when my brother bought me my first pair of heels; they were white leather with a kitten heel and I loved them. I was to keep them in their box under my bed and there they had to stay on pain of death until his wedding day when they were to be worn with the apple-green silk bridesmaid dress hanging in the wardrobe at his girlfriend's house.

I almost wore a hole in them trying them on and prancing around the bedroom. A couple of weeks before his big day Human hair wigs there was a school dance so I sneaked them out and wore them.

It felt good Women's Yves Saint handbag to wear nice shoes and took away some of the embarrassment for my dress, which was an old fashioned cast-off from a girl down the lane. I changed back into my old shoes before walking down the track and sneaked the new ones back under the bed.

I thought I'd got away with it but my brother's girlfriend went into my bedroom on some pretext (as she was wont to do; she loved finding something to pick on). She checked the shoes for signs of wear and found some. She told my brother, who wiped the floor with me.

My dad, who never usually stuck up for me against my perfect brother, snapped for once and told him to leave me alone.

The wedding went perfectly, as planned. Nobody noticed my shoes had been worn nor did they notice me walking around the side of the church to wipe away the tears I'd held back as the photos were taken, because across from the church door was a small wooden cross bearing my mother's name.

A MYSTERY Teesside woman with excellent taste in high fashion has left a remarkable legacy of stylish dresses, shoes, handbags and coats to charity.

DEBATE; Are childless women cold and selfish

SOMEONE needs to tell Liz Jones (Mail) that nature ordained that women should bear the brunt of providing for the next generation.

To do this successfully, you need a commitment of a male and a female and, in an ideal world, these two would marry so one could earn a living while the other raises socially responsible children.

We are put on this world to procreate and thus ensure the survival of the human race. When Liz grows old, she will be dependent on those children she so despises - and whose welfare she so resents having to help pay for - to be her doctor, nurse, butcher, baker and plumber. No one will be the least interested Replica Breguet Watches in her designer shoes, handbags and clothes. She may well die alone.

Replica A.Lange&Sohne

It is sad that she has realised her predicament too late in life. So many women who are choosing her lifestyle are generally of high intelligence, who would no doubt produce intelligent offspring. Quite frankly, our country needs such a future generation.

Patricia Gowers, London.

LIZ JONES's article (Mail) rings absolutely true with me. Women who are childless and over 50 like her, and me, are not cold, selfish or barren, as some modern mothers would perceive us to be. My husband and I have both been married once before. We met in our 30s and he already had two children. Being responsible for them when they came to stay with us gave me a big insight into what being a parent was really like.

We all got on well, but as time went on I realised any maternal feelings I was supposed to have had not materialised.

De Witt Fake Watches

When my step-children were older and independent, my husband and I knew we didn't want any more children.

Women like me are not a minority - only one of my friends has had children and she is a grandmother at 51. But she has moved 260 miles to the other side of the country to get 'some peace'.

Like Liz Jones, I have love to give, but it doesn't involve me having a baby.

Krystine Amer, address supplied.
